The Department of Economics of the University of Macedonia organizes the 5th International Conference on Applied Theory, Macro and Empirical Finance (AMEF), which will be held at the Department of Economics, University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece. The aim is to bring together researchers, young scholars, post-doctoral researchers and PhD students that are working on the areas of Economics and Finance. Selected papers will be included in special issues of the (1) Journal of Economics and Finance, (2) Economic Change and Restructuring and (3) The Journal of Economic Asymmetries. The registration fee is 165 Euros and includes coffee breaks, two lunches and meeting material.

Following the completion of the AMEF2019 conference, we would like to ask all participants to consider the following options for their papers.

SUBMISSION DETAILS

If you are interested in participating in the AMEF2019 conference, please complete the online application form here, no later than January 27, 2019. Should you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

In case you encounter any difficulties using the application form, you may submit an extended abstract (300-500 words) in English, in PDF format, by sending an email to amef@uom.edu.gr. All abstracts should include the title, keywords, JEL classification, authors’ names, affiliation and an email address.

REGISTRATION DETAILS

All payments must be made by a bank account deposit by March 1, 2019. Please mention "AMEF and your name" when making the deposit. The transfer payment details will be sent to you via email, upon paper acceptance. In case you will not receive an email, please contact us at amef@uom.edu.gr. Please, note that the registration fee for presenters is 165 Euros. The fee includes coffee breaks, two lunches and meeting material. A reduced fee is available for those that would like to attend without presenting a paper. Please contact us at amef@uom.edu.gr

VENUE

The Conference will be held at the University of Macedonia, which is located in Thessaloniki, Greece . For more information visit UoM.

Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece and is located about 500 km. north of Athens, in the region of Central Macedonia. For more information visit Visit Greece: Thessaloniki and Travel: Thessaloniki.

Thessaloniki was the European Youth Capital for 2014 and a former European Capital of Culture. Fifteen of the city’s monuments are listed as Unesco World Heritage sites. In 2013 Thessaloniki was listed as one of National Geographic’s 20 ‘Must-See’ places in the world and has been ranked 5th in Lonely Planet’s World’s Top 10 party cities. TRAVEL INFORMATION

The “Makedonia International Airport” (airport code: SKG) in Thessaloniki is the second largest airport unit in Greece, serving over 5 million passengers per year and served by 27 international airlines on a regular basis, in addition to an extra 10 airlines that operate during the summer using charter flights. Thus it connects the city to many European capitals and several other European cities by direct flights. It also offers direct flights to other major cities of Greece and many Greek islands. Among the air-companies that fly to Thessaloniki’s airport are: Aegean Airlines, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Turkish Airlines and many low-cost companies such as Ryanair, EasyJet and Wizz Air. The airport is located 16 km from the city center.


A public bus service (no. 01X and no. 01N night line) connects the airport with the center of the city at 20-minute intervals throughout the day and takes you to the center in less than 30 minutes (ticket costs €2). A taxi service is also available at the airport on a 24-hour basis.

icon  Makedonia airport to Lazart Hotel: €28 (appointment required, 5€-7€ penalty if the flight delays for more than 45 minutes and the company is not informed. The night route rate, 23:50-05:00, is 33€) .

In order to book a taxi you can send an e-mail to info@radiotaximercedes.gr or call (+30 2310 556203), providing all the necessary information (name, flight, date-time of arrival, number of passengers). Furthermore, there is the possibility for payment with a credit card. In this case, prior notification is necessary. All vehicles are air-conditioned. All aforementioned rates include taxes and luggage costs.


ACCOMMODATION

Participants qualify for a special rate in the following hotels. To benefit from these special rates, participants should contact directly the hotels, mentioning that they are attending the 5th International Conference on Applied Theory, Macro and Empirical Finance (AMEF), University of Macedonia. Alternatively, there are other good value hotels in the city. Rooms are offered subject to availability (all rates include breakfast and taxes*).

The 4th International Conference on Applied Theory, Macro and Empirical Finance (AMEF2018), held at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece, April 2-3, 2018, was successfully completed with more than 145 participants. The distinguished Keynote Speakers of AMEF2018 were Prof. Harris Dellas, University of Bern , Prof. Evi Pappa, European University Institute, Prof. Konstantinos Theodoridis, Bank of England and Prof. Thanasis Stengos, University of Guelph.

The distinguished Keynote Speakers of AMEF2017 were Prof. Gikas Hardouvelis, University of Piraeus, Prof. Elias Papaioannou, London Business School, Prof. Konstantinos Theodoridis, Bank of England and Prof. Thanasis Stengos, University of Guelph.

The 2nd International Conference on Applied Theory, Macro and Empirical Finance (AMEF2016), held at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece, May 6 – 7 2016, was successfully completed with more than 70 participants. The distinguished Keynote Speakers of AMEF2016 were Professor Karim Abadir, Imperial College London, UK, Professor Thanasis Stengos, University of Guelph, Canada ,and Professor Anastasios Xepapadeas, AUEB, Greece.
